Watch the term "birth control"... "Birth control" is more of a mentality than a practice. Abstinence-only and NFP are good means of avoiding pregnancy, but they are not generally "birth control" because they are not usually used with the birth control mentality.
Abstinence and NFP are birth control, i.e., they are means of controlling birth, however I acknowledge that the phrase sometimes connotes a more specific purpose.
To quote Rush Limbaugh, "abstinence works every time it's tried." It's the only form of birth control that's 100% guaranteed to work when used.
